ABORIGINAL DAY CELEBRATIONS – JUNE 21, 2014, POTLOTEK FIRST NATION COMMEMORATING MI’KMAQ MEN’S 1967 EXPO EXPEDITION.

Mike a touring Cape Breton stopped by at the community hall to check things out.  He was surprised to meet First Nation people celebrating Aboriginal Day and Commemorating Mi'kmaq Men on their 1967 expedition to Montreal.

Big thanks to Mike and his wife for dropping in, and Mike sharing his story.

 

Sidney John Francis is a direct descendant.  Sidney's father George Francis paddled to Montreal during 1967 Expo Expedition summer games.

 

Norman Basque canoed to Montreal along with 11 other men from Membertou and Eskasoni.
Norman shares his story of the canoe trip.
A 1400km canoe trip took 45 days.

 

Minute of silence was given to Greg Johnson recently passed before the Commemoration.
