An innovative approach to managing housing monies has allowed the Potlotek First Nation to build more homes. In partnership with the Royal Bank of Canada Aboriginal Banking Services, the band has a revolving $250,000 housing loan which can be drawn on for the construction of new homes.
With the help of this loan, the band has been able to construct 11 new homes this year with six already occupied. It is anticipated that all 11 will be occupied by the end of March. All of the homes are built by local Mi'kmaw contractors. The Band Council has invested $950,000 for the construction of new homes to date.
