Our community is home to the Mi’kmaq people, who have thrived in this region for countless generations.

Potlotek First Nation, nestled on Chapel Island in Richmond County, Nova Scotia, holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Mi’kmaq people. Situated near the shores of the Bras d’Or Lakes, this community is known for its close connection to both land and water, emphasizing traditional practices such as fishing and respecting the environment.

Potlotek is also a key gathering place for the annual St. Anne’s Mission, a time of community and cultural celebration. The Mi’kmaq language and traditions are central to Potlotek’s identity, and efforts to revitalize and strengthen them continue to shape the community’s future.
