Indigenous Employment
The Indigenous Employment Office in collaboration with the Mi’kmaq Employment Training Secretariat, plays a vital role in supporting clients and the community in achieving their employment and educational goals. The office provides services that involve community engagement, counseling, and connecting clients with resources to help them attain their career aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Community Engagement and Counseling:
Actively engaging with community members to provide support and connect them with resources tailored to their career and educational goals. -
Educational Support:
Conducting regular follow-ups with educational institutions to track client progress and maintaining continuous communication with clients throughout their educational and professional journeys. Success stories are shared to inspire and motivate both current and prospective clients. -
Training Programs and Workshops:
Facilitating initiatives such as driver’s training, babysitting courses, job fairs, resume writing, and interview preparation to address specific career goals or barriers within the community. -
Short-Term Funded Employment Opportunities:
Assisting clients in accessing short-term employment opportunities funded through external sources like MEBO/MNFC, Clean CSJ, and METI.
Through these efforts, the Indigenous Employment Office contributes significantly to enhancing employability and improving the well-being of community members.

Today is National Indigenous Water Operators Day.
From our friends at www.facebook.com/watermovement.ca:
'Water is life, but for many Indigenous communities, access to clean, safe drinking water is a daily challenge. National Indigenous Water Operator Day (NIWOD) was created to honour the water operators who overcome immense obstacles to ensure their communities have access to this vital resource.
Held every year on March 21 — the day before World Water Day — NIWOD reminds us that before celebrating water, we must first celebrate those who make it safe to drink.'
